James Barr was a well known divining-rod artist in Ontario, Canada. It's said that he found water on over 1,000 farms throughout the province.

Divining (also known as dowsing) is the act of finding ground water, oil, ore, and other underground substances without the use of scientific apparatuses. Usually a metal rod in either a "Y" or "L" shape is used. James used a "Y" shape, as pictured above.

Divining is considered a pseudoscience. However, several of the Barr family members are said to have been successful in finding water underground using this method. James' grandson, Glen Barr has apparently had a lot of success with the use of this method as well.
