JOHN BARR

John (1824-1895) was born in Govan, Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. (As of 1912 Govan became a district in the southwest of the city of Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland)

He lived most of his life farming near the village of Motherwell, Fullarton Township, Perth South (Perth County), Ontario, Canada. 

Family lore states that John came to Motherwell after spending some time in Lanark County (near Ottawa ON).  Perth County records show that he and a first cousin also named John Barr (1822-1911, Son of Robert Barr) both arrived in Perth County the same year.

Janet (1824-1892) and James were married  Mar 2, 1849, Fullarton Township, Perth County, Canada West (Ontario), Canada.

They had Ten children together:

- Janet Barr (May 15, 1850 - Oct 19, 1920)
- Peter Barr (Dec 8, 1851 - Mar 23, 1892)
- John Barr (died in infancy, possibly about 1853)
- Robert Barr (Nov 4, 1856 - )
- Margaret Barr (Oct 8, 1857 [birth yr. estimated from conflicting records] - 20 Sep 1918)
- John Sherriff Barr (Jan 17, 1860 - Aug 22, 1904) (TWINS!)
- Hume Sherriff Barr (Jan 17, 1860 - May 22, 1933) 
- Isabella Barr (Aug 2, 1862 - Dec 17, 1925)
- James Crosby Barr (Aug 4, 1864 - 1941)
- Alexander Barr (about 1868 - )
